What is your favorite childhood memory?
Chasing dragonflies by the creek near my grandmother’s house in Tennessee.
Best advice received?
You don’t have to be perfect for God to work through you. Offer yourself to Him as you are, and trust Him.
Favorite Bible verse?
I am really fond of verses that remind me that God’s salvation is for everyone in the whole world, like Psalm 96:2-3:
Sing to the LORD, bless His name;
tell of His salvation from day to day.
Declare His glory among the nations,
His marvelous works among all the peoples!
Favorite academic subjects?
Languages and History. I began learning Spanish as a child. When I got to college, there were other languages available, and I was so excited that I took Spanish, Japanese, French, and German classes all at the same time. My roommate woke me up often that year, complaining that I was speaking gibberish in my sleep.
I also love studying the Bible, because I can never master it. God always has something new to teach me, even if I’ve read a passage several times.
What do you enjoy most about teaching?
Encouraging students to try things they believe are difficult, to overcome their fear of making mistakes, and watching the joy on their faces when they succeed at something they thought was too hard to attempt.
Why do you want to serve in Japan?
My heart yearns for people in every country to come to know Jesus. I have a specific desire to share His love with the Japanese, because I studied in Japan as a college student and God made me acutely aware of the lostness around me. He broke my heart for the beautiful people and culture in Japan that He longs to redeem, and I want to help.
What excites you about serving with Genesis College?
I love teaching, Japan, helping people start new things, and serving God. Serving at Genesis is a way I can enjoy doing all the things I love together with my family.
Favorite free time activities?
Hiking, swimming, bicycling, and other outdoor activities. Playing with my children. Exploring new places and tasting new food.
